Master logistics experts present efficient solution at fritz-kola
What recommendations does a company need for optimised stock levels? This is the question that Master's students at the Hamburg campus addressed as part of a project for fritz-kola.
The participants of the 中国足球彩票手机版 Logistics & Supply Chain Management program had to carry out a comprehensive analysis of the safety stocks in each bottling plant. It was important to ensure that the sales orders could be filled both in the high and low seasons. Such an efficient stock policy should help to improve the operational efficiency of fritz-kola.
For the task set by course leader Prof Dr Dagmar Tomanek and the representatives of fritz-kola, not only the mathematical evaluation was important, but also the pragmatic realisation. The tricky part was how to manage the amount of data and to find a qualitative answer on this basis.
Master's student Prateek Pardeshi describes his experience: “As we still have to gain experience in this field and we have generally never worked in the industry before, we based our project for fritz consulting on the company's history, sales performance and the annual report. It was of course a challenge to identify the key points for abnormalities and to substantiate this. With the help of various data analyses, we were able to find the crux of the matter and a solution."
To solve the problems, the students familiarised themselves with Power BI, a cloud-based business intelligence service, on their own. The result was a cockpit with real data that can be filtered by location and product type.
The feedback from the responsible at fritz-kola was not only reflected in the final grade (a perfect 1.0). Both sides were very interested in the results of the project because the task addressed a real problem in the company. The final presentation of the developed cockpit exceeded the expectations and will be used as a basis for decision-making on that topic within the company.
